Turning citrus waste into value-added raw materials

PeelPioneers, an organic refinery for citrus peels, has been located in Prodock since 1 March 2017. Each year, more than 250 million kilos of citrus peels are thrown away in the Netherlands and then incinerated or fermented.

A new step towards cleaner air in North Holland

A ban on degassing of benzene and of cargo containing benzene during sailing will apply in North Holland with effect from 1 March 2017. This measure will contribute to a better environment and cleaner inland navigation.

Port of Amsterdam’s approach to noise pollution is unique and has been rewarded

The beeps emitted by reversing vehicles of the businesses in the port area are safe but annoying. This detracted from the quality of life for the inhabitants of Zaanstad and Westzaan. Port of Amsterdam devised a solution, which has now won the Golden Decibel Award of the Stichting Geluidshinder (Dutch Noise Abatement Foundation).

Waiting in Amsterdam made easier for inland navigation

Port of Amsterdam is convinced that access to the port can always be smarter, faster and cleaner. Port of Amsterdam has become connected to BLIS in order to be able to facilitate the inland navigation even more effectively. BLIS provides the inland navigation sector with an easier way to gain insight into the occupation of the berths in the port of Amsterdam.

Higher turnover for Port of Amsterdam in 2015

Port of Amsterdam (Havenbedrijf Amsterdam NV) realised a turnover of € 147.4 million in 2015. An increase of 3.5% compared to 2014. The net result for 2015 came to € 52.6 million. These and other key figures are stated in the annual report published today.
