Maiden Call of The Great Casablanca from Grimaldi in Amsterdam
Yesterday, the vessel The Great Casablanca from the Grimaldi Group docked for the first time in the Port of Amsterdam. This impressive Container/RoRo ship is 250 meters long, 38 meters wide, and has no fewer than 12 decks. It boasts a loading capacity of 4,000 cars and 2,000 containers.
Connecting Northern Europe and West Africa
The Great Casablanca is the fifth vessel in a series of six innovative ships recently introduced into service. These vessels play a key role in maintaining an important transport connection between West Africa and Northern Europe.
To mark this maiden call, Allard Klinkers, Commercial Manager at Port of Amsterdam, presented a commemorative plaque to the captain on behalf of the port authority. "We are delighted to welcome The Great Casablanca on her maiden call to the port of Amsterdam. This highlights the growing role of Amsterdam as a sustainable and efficient logistics hub for both short-sea and deep-sea connections. The arrival of innovative vessels like this aligns perfectly with our ambition to further develop the port as a future-proof and multimodal link in the international supply chain."
Sustainable Technologies Onboard
Beyond its impressive cargo capacity, The Great Casablanca stands out for its various sustainable and technological innovations. The vessel features adjustable decks, which can be flexibly adapted to accommodate different types of cargo, such as containers, trucks, and cars. Additionally, it is shore power-ready, equipped with an emission-scrubbing system, and designed to operate on multiple sustainable fuel options, contributing to a lower CO₂ footprint.
With this maiden call, The Great Casablanca underscores the increasing role of the Port of Amsterdam in sustainable shipping and international logistics.
